The Kynningsrud Group first saw the light of day in Halden as long ago as 1946. Bjarne Kynningsrud started as a master builder and established himself as one of the first machine contractors in Østfold.
The company grew during the 1950s and Bjarne’s wife Solveig became a vital source of support. When Bjarne died in 1970, his oldest son Harald was only 21, but he took over the company, at first with his mother Solveig.
At that time, the company consisted of two mobile cranes, a mechanical digger and a total of nine employees. During the 1970s, Kynningsrud refined its activities into mobile cranes, the assembly of concrete sections and piling/sheet piling – the pillars of today’s Kynningsrud.
Turning to Sweden
The Swedish operation was established in the mid-1980s. With Halden near the Swedish border as the starting point, the focus was on assembling concrete elements and mobile crane hire. The cooperation between Swedish concrete element suppliers was a success and Kynningsrud started importing concrete elements from Sweden to Norway.
Factory established in Uddevalla
In 1995, market conditions were changing and work was begun on establishing our own concrete section factory. Kynningsrud started looking for a suitable site to build its own factory and eventually found the old shipyard area in Uddevalla. This was a perfect spot, strategically located between Oslo and Gøteborg.
Production started in 1997. Since then the factory has developed into one of Sweden’s largest and most modern concrete section manufacturers. After extensive negotiations with the local authority in Uddevalla, Kynningsrud bought the whole Kasen area in 1996. This opened up opportunities for expansion and since then more than 200 million kroner has been invested in personnel, modern production equipment, buildings and warehousing, so as to increase production volume.
A strong organisation to safeguard the future
Divisional manager Pål Sanne and former general manager in Uddevalla Tommy Sigurdsson, have played a key role in this development and together they have built an effective and strong organisation for the Norwegian and Swedish market.
Naturally, the story does not end here. It is continuing with the same intensity.
Precast operations, concrete sections and steel structures in Uddevalla and Fredrikstad are today part of one combined operation – the border is just a dotted line on the map. Our strength, both today and in the future, is the ability to be where there is most for us to do. We hope our customers and friends look forward to being with us on this exciting journey!
